MarketWATCH Muskoka: 27 September 2017

September 27, 2017 in Bracebridge, Joseph, Muskoka, Muskoka, Port Carling, Rosseau

This past week has been a gift. We spent more time on the water than we have all summer. Weather has been very cooperative. Balmy breezes, gentle waves and rising temperature of the lake has made being waterbound truly enjoyable. Very few boats too, although Monday evening found the lake to be busier than it was on the weekend. Looking across to the beaches, they were busy too with kids from after school. What a life!

We know the weather’s about to change. It has to change. In the meantime, Muskoka is in its glory. Leaves are testing their fall colours, bugs have decided they’ve had enough and it’s warm! Summer in September. Nice.

MarketWATCH Muskoka: 20 September 2017

Summer and September this year are synonymous. Who would’ve thought? The lake is warm, as are the evenings. The days? Summer like. Many of us think September is THE BEST month in Muskoka. This year it’s even better!

The Fall Studio Tour begins this weekend. Maybe this year it will be the first Summer Studio Tour. Regardless, the tour is always interesting, whether shopping for that special piece, thinking about Muskoka decorations for a festive table or just hoping to be inspired by something that catches your eye. The Tour is all of that and then some, carvings, metalwork, sculpture, paintings, fabrics …just about everything you could imagine. If you plan to go, drop by the Bracebridge Farmers’ Market at the same time. You’ll be glad you did.

On the cottage side of things, activity has picked up – both in terms of properties coming to market and properties selling. We’re busy. Plan ahead. Some of us already have appointments for the weekend. Don’t be disappointed!

MarketWATCH Muskoka: 13 September 2017

September brings the Fall Studio Tour to Muskoka. We celebrate artists and artisans, people of creativity and talent who live and create here. Quite special to have so many gifted people so close. The Tour, which takes place in Spring and Fall is a real eye opener and definitely worth doing.

If you listen to the news, you’d think summer is over. Not so. We are embarking on what many people think is the finest part of the season in Muskoka. September. With it comes warm, sunny days, cool nights, no bugs and a peacefulness on the water that is hard to find in high season. The water’s still warm, swimming’s a pleasure and so is just sitting on the dock, enjoying nature. September enhances Muskoka as leaves turn to their golden and rusty hues. Somehow the sky seems bluer, it’s definitely clearer and the reflection of the forest in the lake is brighter. September glows!

Muskoka’s got talent

July 6, 2014 in Arts and Crafts, Muskoka, Port Carling, summer

Everyone wins!

Everyone wins!

Each Saturday through July and August the deck of Remax Hallmark’s Port Carling office is made over to exhibiting the work of Muskoka artists, artisans and crafts people. This effort is in aide of the Brock and Willa Napier Wellness Centre that will house a Nursing Station, Hospice and Senior’s Residence. The show’s exhibitors donate 10% of their sales to the Centre. Yesterday, the theme of the exhibit was oil and acrylic painting. National gold medallist, Allan Beckley, brought his super realism to the deck and Synthia just couldn’t resist. Not just one but three Beckleys will have pride of place in her home. Congratulations!

Antique Boat Show

July 5, 2014 in Gravenhurst, Muskoka, Port Carling, Rosseau

Hold on! I'm coming ...

Hold on! I’m coming …

Today’s the day. Woody lovers from all over North America descend on Gravenhurst for the annual Antique and Classic Boat Society’s Boat Show. Traffic across Lake Rosseau has been brisk as woody owners coverge on their way to the locks in Port Carling. This gentleman’s racer roared by in a flash, spray flying. Exhilarating! One beautiful day in Muskoka and not a better way to spend it. Gravenhurst! It’s worth the ride …

Submerged dock, floating boathouse?

Not a sun deck yet

Not a sun deck yet

Not all docks are built to the same elevation. There are docks on Lake Muskoka still above the water level. Unfortunately this dock isn’t. Currently it’s submerged by 5 or 6 inches. Duke’s Patio in Port Carling is high and dry at the moment…. a great afternoon to sit by the water!

Port Carling Gift

June 21, 2013 in Muskoka, Port Carling

Brock and Willa Napier live in the Township of Muskoka Lakes. They are community minded people who have foresight and vision. They know with our aging population demands on the healthcare system are increasing. Today, on lands they had already given to the Township for the development of a Wellness Centre (Nursing Station, Seniors’ Residence and, Hospice), they gifted the project $750,000 in equal parts to the three partners in the Centre. It’s a generous action and one which will pay dividends to the inhabitants of Muskoka Lakes. Grateful townsfolk turned out to hear Brock and Willa as they made their gift and to hear from representatives of the Nursing Station, Andy’s House/Hospice Muskoka and, Lions’ Seniors’ Residence. It was a proud day courtesy of Brock and Willa. Thank you!

Spring Art Tour

June 9, 2013 in Arts and Crafts, Muskoka, Port Carling

Twice a year Muskoka has an Art Tour. There are more than 40 artists and artisans in central Muskoka and many of them open their studios and workshops for the curious and interested. This weekend the spring tour is in full flight. A bright, sunny day with warm summer breezes is here to complement the event. Even the draw bridge in Port Carling seems to be leading the way … follow the lines!

Back in Business

June 6, 2013 in Muskoka, Port Carling

Flooding doesn’t end when the water recedes. For those affected, that’s when the work begins. Duke’s is no exception. Quite likely the most affected business in Port Carling from this spring’s high water, it’s good to see the doors open again and people working. Things may not be back to normal – whatever normal is – but they’re back!
